Are you making the most of ‘My Pension Online’?

Back in December 2023, we upgraded our self-service pension portal, ‘My Pension Online’. The upgrade introduced some new features designed to make managing your pension easier but, are you aware of everything that ‘My Pension Online’ has to offer?

Updating contact details

Did you know that you can use your ‘My Pension Online’ portal to update your contact details rather than having to give us a call? Simply click on ‘update my details’ and you can update your personal details, employment details and communication preferences.

Making/changing a death grant nomination

In some circumstances, a one-off payment (known as a death grant) may be payable to a charity, person or persons of your choosing should you pass away. You can use the ‘manage my beneficiaries’ section to make or change a death grant nomination. You can nominate as many people as you like, specifying the percentage of the death grant you would like each to receive. Without a death grant nomination in place, we may have to pay your death grant to your estate where it could be subject to inheritance tax.

Please note that to add a death grant nomination, you will need to know your beneficiary’s date of birth, home address, email address and phone number. To find out more about death grants, you can also have a look at our dedicated webpage lgps.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/death-in-service-grant

Receiving letters/pension statements and sending us messages/information/documents

In the ‘letters and documents’ section of ‘My Pension Online’ you can view letters and other information that we have sent to you. In the same section, you also have the option to upload any files that we’ve requested as well as view any documents you have previously sent to us.

There is a separate section where you can view your Annual Benefit Statements. From the homepage, just click on ‘view my statements’.

Benefit calculators

Our benefit calculators are there to help you make decisions about your pension and your retirement. We have a number of calculators you can use, depending on your membership status.

You can obtain a deferred benefit estimate if you’ve paid into the LGPS for at least two years but leave the Scheme before retiring. Alternatively, you can calculate what you’re likely to receive if you take voluntary retirement. Currently, you can do this from age 55 but the Government is planning to increase this to 57 from 6 April 2028. For both of these calculators, you can input different retirement dates/ages, and the system will calculate an estimate of what pension will be payable. You can use the slider tool to adjust the amount of lump sum/annual pension which will adjust the figures accordingly.

From the ‘benefit calculators’ section, you can click on ‘explore additional calculators’ to be redirected to our old site. Here, you can also use our ‘death benefits’ calculator to see how much your death grant, spouse’s and children’s pensions may be worth.

Retirement planner

This feature helps you to calculate your expenditure vs. your income to help ensure that your retirement matches your preferred lifestyle. The feature has three steps.

You begin by choosing a retirement lifestyle goal – essentials covered, living comfortably or luxurious retirement. You can then figure out how much you might need per month based on your own personal expenses. We’ll then give you a pension estimate so that you can compare it your target outcome.

‘My Pension Online’ FAQs

There are drop down menus at the top of each page to switch between records.

  1. Why have I been redirected to your old site?

As the upgrade to ‘My Pension Online’ is relatively new, not all of the features have been transferred over from our old platform.
