Fit for the Future Response and the Pension Schemes Act 2026

The Government has published its response to the technical consultation on regulatory changes for the LGPS ‘Fit for the Future’ reforms. These changes mostly relate to how pension funds are pooled and governed and will take effect from 30 June 2026. They do not directly affect your benefits as an LGPS member.

The Fit for the Future reforms also feed into the Pension Schemes Act 2026, which has now received Royal Assent. This marks a significant milestone in the Government’s wider programme of pension reform.

There is no action required from members. We will continue to monitor developments and keep you informed of any changes that may affect you.
