Pension Awareness Week 2025

Pension Awareness Week, an annual initiative run by pension professionals to help educate and empower individuals to plan for retirement, is taking place from 15 to 19 September 2025.

If you’re currently paying into an LGPS pension, you have the comfort of knowing that you’re taking a positive step towards saving for your future. Our website is full of information to help you understand how your LGPS pension works and what you can do to prepare for your retirement.

However, you may have pensions you’ve forgotten about (£26.6 billion is thought to be locked away in old pensions) or you may want advice on whether to invest, and in what, to help maximise your retirement pot. That’s where Pension Awareness Week is here to help.

To get started, why not have a look at their 6-Step Pension Challenge:

  1. Find out how much you’ve got in your current pension
  2. Gain control of any forgotten or old pensions
  3. Take stock of all your pensions
  4. Work out how much pension you’re going to need in retirement
  5. Ask yourself whether that will be enough
  6. Get your beneficiary details up to date

Doing these 6 steps is a great way to review where you are now and inform whether or not you want to make any changes to how much you’re saving/your retirement plans.

From the 15 to 17 September, you can also attend one of the Pension Awareness Week live webinars, each one focusing on a different money and pensions topic. These will give you the opportunity to put questions to pension experts and get simple, jargon-free answers. Topics this year include:

  • Finding and combining lost pension pots
  • The State Pension
  • How pension money is invested

Head to the Pension Awareness website to see the full timetable and book your place. On the website you’ll also be able to take a look at some FAQs, on demand videos and useful articles on all things pension related.
